Glass Doors for ZC Fireplace with Stone Facing - Project #11091
Customer Comments: I am looking for bifold glass doors to install on my fireplace while i'm replacing gas logs and igniter. It is an old (1970's?) metal ZC firebox unkknown manufacturer approx 31 x 22 inside, set in masonry rock with an an opening approx 36 1/2 x 28 1/2. The there is mortar 1 1/4 or more wide between the rock and the ZC metal on the left and right sides and a lintel above. Something simple that looks something like the Brookfield unit pictured on your site is what I'd like. Probably prefer door system able to mount to mortar and lintel rather than the ZC metal. Please look at the pictures attached and see what alternatives you recommend. Thanks.
Our Comments: To treat this fireplace properly we would use a "Mortar Form" that would be mortared in prior to the installation of the glass door. This will seal off the air gaps between the existing stone and the ZC firebox, which is critical for safety. We have provided several mockups of doors that will look good with your stone. The Brookfield cannot be installed in this manner, so we have provided a similar alternative shown in Option #1. The other doors are made from solid steel and provide a rugged higher quality refined look.
Fireplace Opening: 36 1/2" W x 28 1/2" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Affordable Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Medium to High End Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
