Screen Doors for Large Stone Fireplace - Project #11135

Custom Fireplace Glass Doors - Project #11135

Customer Comments: The fireplace opening is 64" W x 43" H. We're looking for a custom 3 panel screen. Our current 3 panel screen is 49"W x 34" H and it let's too many embers escape. The width of the current screen seems ok, but enters are often popping out over the top. Looking forward to your recommendations.

Our Comments: We suggest using a screen door or glass door that covers the entire fireplace opening. These can be made to fit inside the opening and the gaps can be filled with mortar, or we can use a wider frame and overlap the irregular stone.

When the fire is dying out, you can close the doors and leave your damper open to keep the heat in the room and cold air outside. Glass doors from Design Specialties can be burned with the doors closed as long as the size of each glass pane is less than 4 square feet. Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
