Glass Doors for Unique Stone Fireplace - Project #11157
Fireplace #1 | Fireplace #2 | Fireplace #3
Customer Comments: Hello, I have 4 indoor, conventional wood burning fireplaces in my home in Santa Fe, NM and I want to see what options there are for doors if I continue operation as wood burning or if I switch to gas logs? Want to start with 3. I am also interested to know what would be involved in installation and how the doors will be secured and impact functionality?
Our Comments: The doors for this fireplace will need to fit inside the opening and the gaps between the frame and the stones will need to be filled with mortar. Due to the way the right hand stone is cut, the further back the door is installed, the less mortar will be needed. We are showing the doors installed near the back of the stones where the sides are relatively flat. This will leave a gap at the bottom where you will see some of the inside hearth exposed. This also creates less space for the grate inside the fireplace, but will provide the most finished look with the least amount of mortar. We will discuss this further over the phone to help you decide how far back to install the door.
Fireplace #1 Opening: 30" W x 35 7/8" H

Affordable Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
High End Hand Crafted Wrought Iron/Steel Doors
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
