Glass Doors for Fieldstone Fireplace - Project #11184

Custom Fireplace Glass Doors - Project #11184

Customer Comments: Hello! We've been looking through your wonderful website and wanted to ask for help selecting glass fireplace doors for our wood-burning fireplace. Our main goal is to keep smoke entirely out of the room as the fire dies down (we have great flow apparently but still the smoke smell especially at end seeps in), so we'd want glass that could withstand this. If it matters, we may eventually convert to gas.

The fireplace is fieldstone so as we understand a bit of a masonry challenge but doable. The size is 36" wide by 30" tall. A bit hard to measure with the fieldstone. See last photo. Not sure if with this fireplace it's possible to work from afar?

Aesthetically, we are in Massachusetts in a French Provincial home with somewhat European meets New England style. Which is a hodgepodge, I know. Fireplace door-wise this translates to I think something relatively neutral (but not black)--soft gray or tan to blend, we think. We don't like modern but don't want overly rustic. We'd prefer two doors and not bifold. We like handles (not push glass). We like patina but not when it looks fake. We prefer texture--nothing worse than having to clean metal and having it smudge.

That's a long list. We look at everything locally by Stoll and nothing quite hit the mark. The Transitional door came closest. If Pottery Barn made this in a custom glass door (in the pewter), that would come pretty close.

Finally, price-wise we're quite conservative. We'd rather something scaled back but high quality--without a lot of fuss, bulk, or price.

Thanks so much!

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
