Customer Comments: I would like a three panel bi-fold door screen made of a somewhat heavy, sturdy metal.
Our Comments: Here are some folding screens that can be custom made to fit your small fireplace. We recommend the size to be: 26" Wide (center panel) x 8" wide side panels x 27" to 32" tall.

3-Fold Fireplace Screens
Option #1: Design Specialties 3-Fold Fleur De Lis Screen with Tall Arch Top Center and Arched Wings. Made from 3/16" thick solid steel.
Option #2: Hearth Creations Iron Age 6 Wrought Iron 3-Fold Screen in Oil Rubbed Bronze. This is very heavy material compared to the other screens.
Option #3: Hearth Creations 3-Fold Colonial Screen in Matte Black. Made from bent steel so it is sturdy but not extremely heavy.
Option #4: Stone Manufacturing 3P30M Solid Steel Screen with Hand Crafted Wrought Iron Details. Shown with WI-AN3 Spearhead Andirons. This is very heavy material compared to the other screens.

3-Fold Fireplace Screens
You may want to consider a bowed screen for this application as they seem to work best for small fireplaces that are taller than wide. Any of the 3 fold screens can also be made as bowed screens.

3-Fold Fireplace Screen with Doors
3-fold screens with doors are a unique alternative. Unfortunately, most of them on the market will tip over when you open the doors. To overcome this, we either add legs to the front panel or mounting brackets to bolt the side panels to the floor. The example below shows the leg option.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
