Glass Doors for Herringbone Marble Fireplace - Project #11203

Customer Comments: I am in the middle of my home renovation. I need to figure out a fireplace door. I prefer the kind that you can have the door closed while the fire is going. The opening is 35" wide by 25" high. The hearth is new and the herringbone tile will be the surround. There will also be an all white wood surround around the white tile. I can't send room pictures because everything is packed up and moved around. Let me know any additional info you need to help me figure out what works here.

Our Comments: For sake of discussion, we have selected a fireplace picture that is similar in design to what you are planning. Regarding burning with the doors closed, if you plan to continue burning gas logs, you MUST burn the fire with the doors open. Gas logs require an open hearth, otherwise they will soot up and produce carbon monoxide, two things you certainly don't want. Some of the doors below can be burned closed if you are burning real wood and we have indicated such. See your actual before pictures at the bottom of this page.

Fireplace Opening: 35" W x 25" H

Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Before:

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #2: Design Specialties Stiletto Cutback Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass and Mesh Curtains. This door requires the marble to be cut perfectly square as it only overlaps the opening 1/4". Can be burned closed.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
