Glass Doors for 3-Sided Fireplace - Project #11221
Customer Comments: Request for fireplace doors mockup: The fireplace is 3 sided with a metal hood and very uneven rock . The measurements I gave are for screen mount, seems the only place to mount doors. Hopefully this is something you can help me with. PS I don't like gold. Thanks.
Our Comments: It is difficult to see in the pictures just where and how the current screen is mounted. From what we can see, it is likely the doors would be best mounted directly to the perimeter of the hood either fitting just underneath it, or overlapping it about 1". In order to overlap the hood, you would need to cut the 2 vertical bars about 1" (Fig. 1 Illustration below). If we fit the door underneath the hood, we would provide an angle iron that you would first bolt to the bottom lip of the hood and we would then overlap the angle iron and attach the door frame directly to it. Some pictures of the underside of the hood would be helpful.
Below are a few ideas that should be helpful.
Fireplace Opening:
57" W (front) x 8 1/2" D (Sides) x 23 1/4" H

Affordable Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

High End Hand Crafted Wrought Iron/Steel Doors
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.

Illustration
This illustration shows what we mean by cutting back the vertical bars in order to allow the door frame to overlap the metal hood.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
