Glass Doors for Small Granite Fireplace - Project #11256

Customer Comments: Good afternoon, I am looking for fireplace door options primarily to reduce air flow when the fireplace is not in use.

  • I would like bi-fold doors that would open flat against the sides of the mantel, but I'm open to other options. Something decorative would be nice.
  • The square mantel was built on top of the original semi-circular fireplace before we purchased the house.
  • The fireplace was converted to gaslog several years ago and the firebox has metal sides with fire brick at the back.
  • The mantel has marble tile cover that has never had doors. I have no idea what the structure under the marble tile is.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Our Comments: Love this fireplace along with the room and decor. We have a full range of options for you. One thing to keep in mind: Prefricated fireplaces like yours are not designed to be sealed air tight. Glass doors must have a way to allow a small amount of airflow to prevent overheating. The glass doors we have selected will either have 1/4" spacers on the back side of the frame or larger gaps in the glass on the left and right sides. This will reduce the draft significantly, but not 100%. There is no way to safely get around this requirement.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
