Custom Glass Doors for Marco Fireplace - Project #11259

Customer Comments: Hello, We are renovating our entire home and need new fireplace doors. I didn't include a photo of the space because everything is going to change, including the fireplace tile and mantle, etc. This is a Marco fireplace model #792794. Ideally we'd like a black matte look for the doors. Let us know if you can provide some mock ups for us.

Our Comments: There are 2 types of doors for prefab fireplaces like yours. Doors that can be burned closed and doors that cannot. The ones that can be closed must be installed either inside the opening or they must directly overlap the metal fireplace before the tile is installed. Doors that must be burned opened can overlap the tile after it is installed. In any case, the doors must be designed to allow airflow into your prefab fireplace so that it does not overheat. We will discuss these differences in more detail over the phone.

Fireplace Opening: 41" W x 22 1/4" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

About Finishes!

Before:

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut or formed steel.

Formed Steel
Formed Steel Fireplace Door Option #4: Hearth Creations Formed Steel or Flat Steel Door in Matte Black with Satin Nickel Trim. Can also be made in all black. Formed steel is 14 gauge material and will have visible seams as shown in the mockup. Flat steel is heavier 7 gauge steel that is laser cut without seams. These doors can be installed inside, overlapping the metal or overlapping the tile and must be burned open. Formed steel doors stand out about 5/8" from the fireplace and have slots for airflow. Solid steel version is 3/16" thick steel with 1/4" spacers on the back of the frame for airflow.
Sliding Door
Solid Brass Fireplace Door Option #5: Stone Manufacturing SD Sliding Fireplace Door in Matte Black. This door has 2 fixed panes of glass on the right and left sides and 2 sliding panes in the center. The frame must overlap the tile and uses 1/4" spacers on the back side of the frame to allow airflow into the fireplace. Must be burned with the doors open.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
