Glass Door for Rock Fireplace - Project #11275
Customer Comments: Hi, I'm interested in getting some glass doors for my fireplace. The opening is 33"w by 28"h. As per your instructions, I have attached 3 picture. Looking forward to your suggestions.
Our Comments: Normally we would recommend fitting doors inside a stone fireplace. There are some cases where the stones are not too irregular and the door can be made to overlap the opening. Overlap fitting doors require a wider frame to cover the irregularities in the stone. Inside fitting doors should have a narrower frame to minimize the amount the opening is decreased. Fitting the doors inside is a more difficult installation because it requires mortar to be used to fill the gap between the frame and the stones. We cannot tell from your pictures how irregular the stone is. If you wish to consider an overlap fitting door, you will need to send us a clear picture of the stone taken from a slight angle so we can see how rough it is.

Affordable Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
