Glass Doors for Fireplace with Gas Logs - Project #11310
Customer Comments: Our contractor is planning on putting granite in front of the fireplace where the tile in the picture is. The fireplace is gas with a remote control to turn it on. It is 32 5/16 wide from inside to inside an 23 6/8 high although there is a space without tile at the top and I didn’t include that in the measurements. I don’t think I want glass because it usually gets sooty. We need to be able to get inside to open and close the damper. I don't think I want a screen either since they get hard to open and shut sometimes. Thanks for helping us figure this out
Our Comments: We have provided various options for you to consider. Glass doors are your best option with gas logs. They will not get sooty since you will burn the fire with the doors open and leave the mesh doors closed. Read more about this below.
Note: We noticed that your gas logs are not centered because the type of burner being used is not appropriate for the size of your fireplace. We have burner systems that will solve this problem if you want the gas logs to be centered.
Fireplace Opening: 32 5/16" W x 23 3/4" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Single Panel Screens
Single panel screens, or spark arrestors, create the least amount of obstruction to the view of the fire. They are easy to move aside when you need to access the fireplace, but they do nothing to reduce cold air from coming into your home.

Free Standing Screen Doors
Free standing fireplace screens with doors provide easy access to the fireplace without having to move the screen out of the way. They do have a center obstruction to the view of the fire and will not reduce cold air from coming down the chimney.

Fireplace Doors
Fireplace doors can be made with wire mesh doors or with glass doors with mesh doors behind the glass. Glass doors are a very popular option, particularly with gas logs because the damper must be left open permanently. When you burn the fire, just open the glass doors and leave the mesh doors behind the glass closed for protection. Close the glass when you turn off the logs to prevent the draft from coming into your home. Because you are burning the fire with the glass doors open, you don't have to worry about the glass getting sooty.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
