Screen Doors for Farmhouse Fireplace - Project #11348
Customer Comments: Hi, We have a larger fireplace so we need a custom screen. I've attached images of our fireplace. The opening is 47 3/8 inches by 28 9/10 inches. We would like a screen that has a door to make it easier to put firewood in. We want it to cover the opening completely. We live in New England country so we would like something that would match that and somewhat farmhouse. I saw a design with pine trees on that we liked. Very Respectfully.
Our Comments: We can make a free standing screen with doors for your fireplace, but given the large size it will not be particularly stable. For this reason, we recommend having a door made that actually attaches to the fireplace so it will be rigid. We have created mockups so you can see the difference between the two types.
Fireplace Opening:

(Please confirm the height)
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Free Standing Screen Doors
Free standing screens with doors will be somewhat unstable in this size. In cases like this, the manufacturer provides a clamp that attaches to the lintel to hold the screen to the fireplace for stability.

Attached Screen Doors
The attached doors are much more stable and rigid. They are easy to attach with simple pressure screws that do not require drilling.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
