Gothic Glass Doors for Rock Fireplace - Project #11390
Customer Comments: Hello, I reviewed your gallery on your website and am very interested to see what designs you come up with for our rather unique fireplace. I've attached images (one with measurements) of our stone fireplace opening so you can imagine a few different kinds of custom doors for us. Our entire house is Gothic in design. It has dark hardwood and stone flooring, lots of thick dark hardwood molding, and is furnished with period European antiques. It's basically looks like a European castle. Desirements: Designs that use iron, especially rustic iron, would look good here. Think: castle door hardware. However, we'd still like some glass so we can see the fire. Our house includes many pointed Gothic arches, so if those could be worked in as the windows, either as a single arches or as a three point arch, that would be excellent. I look very forward to seeing your ideas.
Our Comments: There are basically 2 ways to approach this. We can have doors made from laser cut steel with some sort of pattern cut into the doors. These will be far less expensive but will not have any relief or dimension to the pattern, just flat steel (see Option #1). We can also have doors made by a skilled blacksmith with layered materials to create a 3 dimensional pattern as you see in Option #2. There is a huge diffence in price between the two, the latter being quite expensive. We will discuss this further before we come up with any other door patterns.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

High End Hand Crafted Wrought Iron/Steel Doors
Hand crafted from heavy wrought iron by a skilled blacksmith. These doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.

Free Standing Gothic Screens

Custom Gothic Scroll-work Examples
Here are examples of some custom gothic scroll-work done by Stone Mfg that can be incorporated into the design.

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
