Sliding Glass Doors for a Large Brick Fireplace - Project #11479
Customer Comments: Hello, My husband and I have been restoring our 1950s farmhouse in NJ back to its formal glory. The fireplace has been a labor of love and we are finally at a place where we can shop for a door/screen. We are looking at quoting the HUDSON ROLLER CUSTOM Fireplace Glass Doors with you. As you will see from our photos, our fireplace has a massive opening, but smaller sides. Since we are both Engineers, and I am a Designer, I have given this a huge amount of thought over the years. We are OK with the doors only opening in the middle, not the full opening.
Our Comments: Below are mockups of the concept that I described in my response to your email. We would add 8" wide fixed glass panels on each side of the door. This would allow us to make the actual doors smaller in width so they can open further. Because no single pane of glass can exceed 4 square feet, we would divide each of the sliding doors into two glass panes.
Fireplace Opening: 60" W x 43 1/4" H x 11" clearance on sides
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

We need the following measurements below in order to process your order. The bricks are slightly irregular, so for the “W” measurement, be sure to find the smallest and largest width.
W: Opening Width – Find the smallest and largest width:
H1: Largest height to bottom of bricks:
H2: Smallest height to steel lintel under the bricks:
L: Width from fireplace opening to wood shelf:

Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
