Project 10092 - Fireplace Door Mock-Ups

Brick Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hi, I would like to buy a glass door for a fireplace to prevent draft and as a décor. Its in the basement. The firebox has some additional “frame” around it (see the pictures attached). We would like to have the glass door overlapped that frame 28 ¾” x 39 3/4“ , but we are open for other suggestions.

Fireplace Inner Opening: 31 3/4" W x 26 1/2" H
Fireplace Outer Opening: 39 3/4" W x 28 3/4" H

Our Comments: In order to overlap the entire inner brick layer, we will need to use a steel door. Because our steel doors are laser cut from 3/16" thick solid steel, we can make the outer frame whatever width we want. Steel doors are the ultimate in appearance and quality and are built to last. The steel door styles we have chosen have little extra hand crafted details that add to their appearance and give them a very distinct look. One of the steel doors is shown with a standard frame so you can see how it will look if we do not use a wider frame and just overlap the inner opening by about an inch. Because the steel doors are more opulent and in a higher price range, we have also included an aluminum door to show how a less expensive option might look. Aluminum door frames are made from extrusions, so the width of the frame moldings cannot be modified. We have chosen a model with the widest frame which allows for a maximum overlap of 3". This will leave a 1" gap on each side as shown.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
