Project 10110 - Glass Doors for Large Fireplace

Customer Comments: Comment: Interested in Glass doors enclosure for our fireplace. Measurements are; H. 51" X W. 53" PS. I liked project #10063 Savannah (Alum) We're getting excessive smoke coming out .

Opening Size: 53" W x 51" H
8" Wide Smoke Guard

Our Comments: Glass doors can only be made so big before the glass panels become to large to maintain structural integrity around heat. We will not make any doors where the individual glass panels exceed 3 square feet. In your case, The Savannah would not be appropriate as an overlap fit because each glass panel would be nearly 12" Wide x 48" Tall, which is 4 square feet, well over the limit. So to do the Savannah door, we would need to make it as an inside fit such that it overlaps the smoke guard. Because you are still getting smoke with the current smoke guard in place, you may need to reduce the fireplace opening even more by using a fireplace door with an even wider frame than the Savannah. We can custom make a door with whatever frame width we want in order to reduce the opening size. We have created several examples of this concept to show how various frame widths affect the look. Option #3 will provide the best potential for reducing smoke.

We have supplied links to each door below their corresponding picture so you can get an idea of the prices and options.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
