Project 10211 - Glass Door for White Brick Fireplace
Customer Request: Looking for bronze frame and your recommendation. Something midrange like Stiletto. House is updated so contemporary now. Width: Exactly 42.5". Height: Exactly 26.75". I have 1-1/2" inches clearance from edge of angle iron to front face of brick. I also have brick offset of about 3/4" around mouth of fireplace. THANK YOU.
Our Comments: We have created several examples of doors in a variety of price ranges. We believe that the Legend and Brookfield doors may be better choices than the Stiletto because they have flatter frames that fit more flush against the opening. This is particularly important when you have protruding bricks that surround the opening like yours. If you choose the Stiletto, you will want to consider the cutback frame option since the Stiletto door has a box like frame that projects 1 1/2" from the face of the fireplace. The cutback frame removes the outer edge of the box and allows it to recess into the fireplace while the outer edge overlaps the opening. The concern about using the cutback frame on a brick fireplace is that we can only overlap the opening about 1/4" which is not usually enough to cover the mortar joints, so there may spots where you can see openings between the mortar joints. We also created an example of the Stiletto as an inside fit. In that case, we would make the door 1/4" narrower than the smallest dimensions and the gap would need to be filled with mortar or grout. Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
