Project #10289 - Glass Doors for Ledger Stone Fireplace
Customer Comments: Hi, We are looking for the new glass door for our masonry fireplace that has been recently refaced with the stacked stone (marble) (over the original red brick). We wanted to give it a more modern and brighter look. This fireplace is using gas logs (not wood burning). Since the new surface is uneven (not smooth) we think the inside fit (mortared in) fireplace doors would be the best option. The fireplace door frame should be made of steel (not aluminium), in a clean modern style and finished in a dark non-shiny color (perhaps black, charcoal or dark iron). We prefer cabinet style doors as long as we could open them wide (i.e. close to 180 degrees). Otherwise the doors would take too much floor space when open due to the fact that there is no hearth. We think both the Original and Slim Moderne hidden hinge twin door style in Rustic Black with Grey Glass and no mesh could be a good option as long as the inside fit is available. Could these doors be open wide even if installed using the inside fit? Would the door stick out beyond the fireplace's front plane? Could you visualize those two types? Do you any have comments or another suggestions? (perhaps the Carolina style doors?)Fireplace Measurements: 42" W x 26" H (inside dimensions)
Our Comments: All of our cabinet doors will open 180 degrees if they are surface mounted. If you install the doors as an inside fit and recess them back into the fireplace, the stone sides will prevent the doors from folding all the way back. So the further you recess the doors, the more of an issue this becomes. Also, when you open the doors it is likely there will eventually be marks left on the door frames where they touch the stones if you open them to that point. So, if you keep the doors rather flush with the opening the issue is minimized. We have created each example below with a rustic black frame with grey glass and with black glass as well as one with clear glass so you can get an idea of the difference. We chose the Legend door over the Carolina because we can make it with a 1" wide frame, which is advisable in this application.
