Hello! Here is a pic of our fireplace that we are interested in having custom doors made for. The measurements are 36"w x 23.5" high.
There are several types of doors that can be used on a prefabricated fireplace like yours. Some can fit inside, some can overlap the opening as long as they don't have glass and some can overlap the opening with glass.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.
These doors are hand crafted in the USA by artisans that use only the finest solid brass materials. They are available in a variety of decorative Castings & Finishes and are crafted like fine jewelry. There is no other company that manufactures fireplace doors at this level of quality and craftsmanship. These doors are quite expensive and are not for everyone.
Option #4: DF1G-52 Solid Brass Fireplace Door. Outer Frame in Antique Brass with Half Oval Casting Door Frames in Old World Bronze and Beveled Glass. This manufacturer makes glass doors that can overlap the opening. They add small spacers to the back side of the frame to allow air to flow inside and keep the firebox cool.
Option #5: SD Solid Brass Sliding Fireplace Door in Old English. This door has 2 fixed panels of glass and 2 sliding panels. It works kind of like like a sliding closet door. Same manufacturer as Option #4.
Option #6: SD-52 =Solid Brass Sliding Fireplace Door with Half Oval Casting Trim in Old English. Same door as Option #5 but with the decorative casting trim on the center of the frame.
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
