Project #10549 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: We just want glass doors, black aluminum frame...smoked glass is fine. The purpose is really just a little draft control. We had glass doors that came with the house (circa 2005) and they are not operating well- always popping out of the frame when trying to slide them open.

We already have mesh screen but not sure how that works with new glass doors...do the glass door units come with mesh screens built in so we need to demo out the current screen? We have a natural gas-fed flute and the fireplace is wood burning. We do not burn the fire with the glass doors closed.

HOWEVER WE WOULD LIKE TO CONVERT IT AWAY FROM WOODBURNING TO GLASS CHIPS OR THOSE SPHERES. WE NEED YOUR THOUGHTS ON WHAT WE NEED TO DO to accomplish THAT.

Our Comments: We have created some mockups of the doors and options you requested. We also added some other doors that better compliment the decor in your room just so you can see the potential and others can see them as well.

Fireplace Opening: Not Supplied

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Aluminum Doors

The aluminum doors are light weight and fit inside the opening with a 1/8" to 1/4" gap around all 4 sides. These are the least expensive and custom doors.

Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #1B: Stiletto Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Gas Fireball Spheres Burning. Keep in mind that you cannot burn the gas with the doors closed. We have pictured it whis way because we simply cannot open the doors digitally.

Frameless Doors

These doors do not have a frame on the sides and provide a much cleaner look. They have a solid metal track that mounts to the top and bottom of the fireplace opening. This door mechanism is extremely heavy duty in construction.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
