Project #10913 - Glass Doors for Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hello. Like your site. Great info and options. I have a cottage style house with painted wood mantel and marble surround. Box opening is quite true - 31 9/16 w x 26 7/8 h. 8" of marble surround. Am thinking of Stiletto or Silhouette in mat bronze or brasses. Liked the idea of cut back mounting to expose more marble. (Only stiletto currently?) Possibly with window pane design. Looking forward to mock ups. Can either of these be done 3-sided ? I have old mounting anchors - 4 in up from bottom on sides. Also 3 " in on top lintel from old standard size door - can those be used?

Our Comments: We have created mockups of doors made from various materials including the Stiletto Cutback and Silhouette doors that are made from aluminum. You can probably use your existing anchors with the aluminum doors. The steel doors will likely require new anchors, but they are very easy to relocate and should not be the deciding factor.

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Stiletto
Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #1A: Stiletto Cutback Fireplace Glass Door in Venetian Bronze. The Cutback version of the Stiletto fits very flush to the fireplace with a subframe that recesses back into the fireplace 1 5/8". This frame requires a perfectly square fireplace as it only overlaps the opening 1/4" on the top and sides. (refer to profile pictures below).
Stiletto
Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #1B Stiletto Cutback Fireplace Glass Door with Window Pane Design in Old World Bronze.
Silhouette
Silhouette Fireplace Door Option #2: Silhouette Fireplace Glass Door in Venetian Bronze. This frame projects out 1 3/4" from the marble, which is hard to see in the mockup. It is not flat against the marble like the Stiletto Cutback, very similar to the standard stiletto shown in the profile pictures below.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Legend
Legend Fireplace Door Option #3A: Legend Window Pane Fireplace Glass Door Oil Rubbed Bronze. This is the richest bronze finish from Design Specialties and is only available on the higher end doors like the Legend. The edges are highlighted giving it a very refined classic look.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
