Project #10959 - Rustic Glass Doors for Rock Fireplace

Customer Comments: Hi: My fireplace opening is 27.5" W x 24.75" H. Please let me know what my options are for fireplace glass doors.

Our Comments: Here are some great options for your beautiful but small stone fireplace. In most cases like yours we will recommend fitting the door inside the opening and filling the gaps with mortar. Because your fireplace opening is so small, we also included an option to overlap the fireplace, although there will be significant gaps between the back of the frame and the stones.

Fireplace Opening: 27 1/2" W x 24 3/4" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Featured Door

Here's what we think is the perfect door to match the decor in your room. "The Legend Fish Creek" features a hand crafted flying Bass fish amongst laser cut river reeds. This rustic nature scene fireplace door is truly a work of art. The mockup is from a picture we have of the original prototype so it is not to scale and the reed leaves are now laser cut from a single piece of solid steel and then overlayed on the door (see shop drawing below).

High End Hand Crafted Forged Iron/Steel Doors

Hand forged doors like this are made by a skilled blacksmith and take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship with tasteful imperfections. This door lends itself to an overlap fit. Keep in mind that there will be significant gaps around the frame due to the irregular surface of the stone, but the wider frame helps hide those gaps better than narrow frames, plus it makes the fireplace look a bit larger. The Great Outdoors model featured above can also be made with a wide frame to overlap the fireplace.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Legend Fireplace Door Option #4: Legend Tuscan Twin Fireplace Glass Door in Vintage Iron with Gate Mesh Backup Door.

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Stiletto Fireplace Door Option #5: Stiletto Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Vintage Iron with Single Gate Mesh Backup Door.

Fish Creek Drawing

Drawing #1 - Legend Fish Creek Drawing - This is a shop drawing showing how the current Fish Creek door is made. The red lines show the flat laser cut portion of the door while the light green lines show laser cut details that are overlayed to provide additional dimension. The Bass feature is still hand crafted as shown further above on the page.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
