Custom Fireplace Glass Doors - Project #11010

Customer Comments: Hi there, I'm writing to inquire about a custom fireplace screen. The fireplace opening is 27.75" (h) by 27" (w). It is 10.25 inches off the ground. Pictures attached. I'm interested in something mounted/integrated i.e., not sitting on the ground given how high the firebox is. My priorities are safety, design, cost, and heat effectiveness. I would like to be able to open the screen with an active fire and ensure my apartment and dog are safe, so I might need a mesh screen. I'm drawn to rather minimal designs. Look forward to hearing from you! Thank you,

Our Comments: Our recommendation for a hole in the wall fireplace like yours is glass doors with a single gate mesh backup door or sliding mesh curtains. These particular doors can be burned with the glass doors open or closed, which is the safest most energy efficient choice. The last door is an exception and must be burned with the doors open. We have created mockups in various different materials and price ranges.

Fireplace Opening: 27" W x 27 3/4" H

Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

High End Hand Crafted Minimal Door

This door is made by a high end manufacturer. We included it because of the very minimal design. It fits inside the opening with a top and bottom angle iron that holds the glass hardware. It uses 3/8" thick glass and has a very unique look. This door must be burned with the glass open. We would included mesh curtains with this model so you can safely burn with the doors open and close the doors as the fire dies out.

Mesh & Insulation Options

The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.

Black Mesh Curtains - These slide back and forth on a rod behind the glass
Gate Mesh Doors - These are separate doors behind the glass that have a flat wire mesh and a black frame.
Insulation: Provides a better seal between the fireplace face and the door frame.
