Glass Doors for See Through Fireplace - Project #11034
Customer Comments: Hi, I am in need of some doors for a double sided fireplace. In addition to normal functions and purpose of fireplace doors, I have a drafting issue that I am hoping can be solved with the door inserts. I have included a picture with the draft guard to show the necessary 14+ inches that need to be blocked for good drafting. I am open to any and all suggestions/concepts. My thoughts were sliding doors with a glass material for the draft guard portion. I would also like to have screens within the doors. I like the vintage iron and forged iron doors I've seen on your site. Brushed nickel or a dull stainless steel is the color/finish I am looking for to match the flu pipe.
Our Comments: Your fireplace does present a design challenge. If you want to be able to burn a fire with the doors open we must incorporate the 14" fixed panel into the top of the door design. As you will see in the mockups, this does not look good proportionally but will create the dual function of being able to burn a fire with the doors open or closed. If we design the doors without the smoke guard, the doors will look much better but you will most likely need to keep the doors closed when burning a fire. During the hottest part of the burn, you may be able to open the doors if the fireplace is drafting well. A third option would be to keep the draft guards but move them back about 2" from the opening. We have created mockups of all 3 types.
Fireplace Opening: 41 1/2" W x 24 1/2" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

Featured Custom Door
This is a one of a kind design that has never been done before. This door has an inner frame with a 14" upper framed in glass panel with a diamond patter in front of it and glass doors that overlap the entire frame that also have a diamond pattern. So the glass doors overlap the upper glass panel. When the doors are open, you see the upper diamond glass pane exposed. When the doors are closed, it looks quote normal except that you will see a horizontal bar at the 14" mark. Solar cooled bronze reflective glass or opaque black glass can be used to help hide the bar when the doors are closed.
Legend Smoke Guard
Low End Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel. Doors by this manufacturer cannot be burned closed.
Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
