Glass Doors for Traditional Neo-Georgian Fireplace - Project #11385
Customer Comments: We are interested in adding fireplace doors to our living room fireplace. The home is Neo-Georgian/Federal built in 1929. The existing screen has been there since the house was built and we think is appropriate for the fireplace and the room. So we are looking for something similar. Obviously, it is a wood burning fireplace and has a chimney top damper fitted. Energy efficiency and comfort are our main goals. The masonry conducts the cold from the outside, making the area around the fireplace feel cold. Thanks in advance.
Our Comments: Fireplace doors that best match the architecture and decor of your home would need to be made from solid brass, like the valance on your current screen. That is our specialty and we have provided several examples. Because solid brass doors are quite expensive, we have presented some less expensive alternatives, although the finish options that might work are quite limited.
Fireplace Opening: 48 3/8" W x 33 1/8" H
Note: These mock-ups are not to scale and are meant to help you choose the model of your screen or door, not the finish. Although we may create a general representation of black, iron, bronze, gold and silver tones, you must choose your finish from our samples using the links below. Ask your project manager which samples apply to the items in your project.

High End Hand Crafted Solid Brass
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.
High End Hand Crafted Wrought Iron/Steel Doors
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.
Medium Range Steel Doors
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Affordable Aluminum Doors
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Solid Brass Castings
Use your imagination to create the perfect fireplace screen with these solid brass castings from Stone Manufacturing. Compliment architectural details in the mantel or other furnishings in our home, or simply create your own unique look. Available in a wide variety of finishes.
Mesh & Insulation Options
The Mesh options are behind the glass so you can burn the fire with the doors open and still have spark protection. Great for real wood or gas logs since most gas long manufacturers insist that you have a screen in front of the logs when they are burning. Mesh panel doors are the most popular and are best for when there are toddlers present because they will not open backwards whereas the mesh screens are easily pushed in. Insulation goes between the back of the frame and the fireplace facing, providing a better seal.
